Over 75% of the IT workforce to continue 'Work from Home' in India

Over 75% of the IT workforce to continue 'Work from Home' in India

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced professionals around the world to work remotely.

IT workers across the country have ensured business continuity amid the pandemic. The IT industry is likely to continue the WFH.

India's secretary of the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) Ajay Prakash Sawhney said that around 75% of the workforce will continue to work from home.

Sawhney was speaking at a Microsoft event. He said, "We are very excited at what happened at that point of time (during lockdown).

Now it is a fact, I can’t imagine going back to the old way of working and I am told by the industry as well, going back to the old ways of working is almost out of question.

It is quite possible that 75% of the workforce will continue to work outside a formal office and yet be equally or more productive."

During the Covid-19 lockdown, up to 97% of the IT workforce was working from home. The Indian IT firms have ensured business continuity for both domestic and international clients.

The government has simplified guideline for BPOs and ITeS companies.

The reduced compliance burden will help companies to facilitate WFH and Work From Anywhere framework.

IT secretary said that the services being provided with the help of data centres have helped everyone to work from outside of the office without any disruption.

The Indian government is working with the IT sector to ensure ease of operations. The Digital India transformation mission is among the top agendas for the government.

MeitY is working on an AI-based natural language translation mission in collaboration with academic and research institutes.
