H-1B visa: Indian IT industry hopes that Biden will relax strict visa rules

H-1B visa: Indian IT industry hopes that Biden will relax strict visa rules

The H-1B visa program has been a centre of attraction for Indian IT industry throughout the new election campaign.

Indian IT firms are keeping a close watch on the US President elect's stance on work visa program.

Tech leaders in the US are eager to work with the incoming Biden administration, hoping the reversal of immigration policies.

The Trump administration had announced several immigration rules over the last few months, making it difficult for skilled techies to acquire work visas.

Several industries groups and technology companies including Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Google have filed lawsuits challenging the new rules imposed by the Trump administration.

With Biden administration, things are likely to be different. The campaign has clearly hinted that this administration is going to be different than the previous one.

When it comes to immigration, Biden administration might be lenient.

However, tech firms are worried that Trump may clamp down even harder on work visas before Biden assumes the office.

In a recent call, White House chief of staff said that the President is seeking to finalise a rule which will impose standard stricter rule around H-1B visas.

Indian IT industry body, Nasscom has welcomed the victory of Biden administration.

In an official statement, Nasscom said, "The Indian technology industry makes critical contributions to the U.S. economy and workforce, including local investments and job-creation, workforce development and upskilling their U.S. employees, CSR (corporate social responsibility) and community services."

The IT body believes that the key challenges that the IT sector in the US faces will be solved with the new administration.

Indian IT sector was highly distressed after the Trump administration imposed stricter policies on the work visa program.
